John Cannon Memorial Scholarship Winner ($40,000) |
Brent Yontz, a graduating senior for Tremper High School in Kenosha, Wisconsin, is the recipient of this year’s $40,000 John Cannon Memorial Scholarship. Next fall he will attend Columbia College of Chicago as a student in the School of Media Arts. Brent has produced over 35 different video projects while still in high school. Many of these projects have received awards from organizations including the 2005 National Fine Arts Video Competition and the Columbia College High School Summer Institute Showcase. He owns and operates his own production company, CM Productions, and has produced videos for a number of corporations. In addition, Brent is an accomplished musician who has performed as First Chair Principal French Horn for his high school band and also as First Chair for both the 2005 and 2006 Wisconsin All State High School Honor Bands. He is both photographer and editor of his high school yearbook, a cast member of a high school production of Fiddler on the Roof, and a member of the National Honor Society. Christopher Bravo, a Columbia College film instructor who has worked with Brent, says that the scholarship recipient: “… strives for professionalism and his films and videos reflect that dedication. They are well thought and carefully considered.” |
